At Lawrence Legion, we believe our program is more than just athletics. Yes, we focus on building and sharpening your child’s skills on the court or field, but just as importantly, we provide a supportive community for both athletes and parents as we grow together in the sports world.
Legion is built on meaningful values and a mission that matters, helping athletes develop not only their game, but also their confidence, character, discipline, accountability, and teamwork. We’re here to shape athletes who thrive both in sports and in life, really.
No try outs!
Yes, but only for certain sports due to high volume of athletes. Each menu item on this website is a sport, if you visit that page there will be the most recent updates/information about volunteer coaches for that specific sport.
From 2024 to 2025, Flag Football grew from 12 to 70, and Track & Field grew from 25 to 80 athletes. Legion sports continue to grow and we're so excited!
Yes! In 2026, we launched our first baseball teams. Through Parks & Recreation, we currently have two teams: a K–1st grade team and a girls 3rd–4th grade team. These teams were created based on skill level, with a focus on helping athletes develop fundamentals and gain experience before competing at a higher league level.
Additionally, building on the experience gained through Parks & Recreation baseball, we started a boys 2nd–3rd grade team that competes in the 3&2 League.
We are currently working on what this may look like for 2026 and in upcomingg years. Updates, plans, any communication relevant to this will be posted on the Soccer tab. Please check that tab for updates moving forward.
Most recently, we celebrated our Track & Field season with an end-of-year Luau attended by more than 80 family members and friends!
Each year, we host at least one event to bring our Legion community together. In 2025, we celebrated with a Summer BBQ and over 70 people joined us on a beautiful August Sunday for hot dogs, burgers, and drinks, while the kids enjoyed an epic water balloon and water gun battle!
In past years, we’ve held end-of-season banquets, and as our athlete numbers continue to grow, our events will grow right along with them.
At Legion, we believe athletics are about more than developing skills on the field, they're also an opportunity to help young athletes grow as individuals. Our end-of-year celebrations and banquets provide athletes with experiences that prepare them for future opportunities both in sports and in life.
These events give athletes the chance to learn and practice important life skills, such as appropriate attire, respectful behavior, accepting and receiving recognition, public speaking, and participating in a formal banquet setting. While these may seem like small lessons, they build confidence, character, and professionalism that will serve our athletes well in the years ahead.
By introducing these experiences early, we help ensure our athletes are prepared not only for future athletic achievements, but also for success beyond the game.
The Heart of Legion Award is one of our most meaningful recognitions because it is chosen by the athletes themselves. In our larger sports programs, such as Track & Field and Flag Football, athletes nominate a peer within their age group who consistently demonstrates Legion's core values: Respect, Discipline & Growth, Teamwork, and Character.
Recipients are selected based on their commitment, attitude, sportsmanship, and the positive example they set for others throughout the season. The award is presented as a special glass trophy and represents the highest form of peer recognition within our program.
The Heart of Legion Award celebrates athletes who embody what it truly means to be a member of Legion—both on and off the field.
